A Cherokee Story Of Life

An elderly Cherokee Indian was teaching his grandchildren about life.

He said to them, "A fight is going on inside of each of us. It is a terrible fight, and it is between two wolves."

One of the wolves represents fear, anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed,
arrogance, self-pity, guilt, loneliness, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and the nature
of the ego.

The other wolf stands for joy, peace, love, hope, sharing, serenity,
humility, kindness, benevolence, friendship, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and the belief in faith.

This same fight is going on inside you,
and inside every other person."

The grandchildren who were listening to the wise grandfather's story
thought about what he had said about the two wolves for a minute or so,
and then one child asked his grandfather,
"Which wolf will win?"

The wise old Cherokee Indian simply replied,
"The one you feed the most."
"Do you not know that to whom you yield yourselves as slaves for
obedience,
you are slaves to him whom you obey;
whether it is of sin to death,
or of obedience to righteousness."
